Who we are...

and what we do...

The statewide Assessment, Teaching, and Learning community
includes educators, administrators, and institutional researchers

- representing both 2-year and 4-year institutions in Washington -

who provide ongoing campus leadership to improve teaching and learning

through assessment and faculty development.

The office of Assessment, Teaching and Learning operates as part of the
Education Services Division of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

The staff in this office support the Assessment, Teaching and Learning community in the following ways:
  • Communicating in ongoing and regular ways about assessment, teaching and learning

  • Convening the statewide community at various retreats and conferences

  • Supporting specific local, regional, and statewide communities of practice, collaborative projects, and related efforts in assessment, teaching and learning that are beneficial to the community as a whole.

I've got the facilitator role in the two-day pre-conference workshop trainings this year at Lilly and I would be excited if folks would send me experiences/ best practices in their work that I could share in this forum. Paul, I am thinking that you had a paper that I could "run by" Gregg Wentzell if you wanted me to . . .
Also, in my featured presentation this year, I got bold enough to ask to showcase the Washington State system "best practices" and innovations. I got a "yes" and I'll post the link to the abstract and the title as soon as they are "up" on the web. Milt wants me to "tweak" the title and I would love your input, as I think I let the pendulum swing too far in saying exactly what I mean ( I have a tendency to write these creative, cryptic titles and people aren't sure what the session is really about- no surprise to you all. this time though, because I was representing the ideas of others, I was very careful to "spell it out" and it lacks pizazz - I'll post ASAP).
Since I have a forum to showcase innovative practices (especially things that confirm my assertion that we, as a system, work as a learning community writ large :) ) I would love to hear from you so that I can summarize, synthesize and give you credit for the great work that you are doing. Since I don't really have a "home" campus right now (although I always feel I belong at any of the colleges in our system because of my work with you) you can either post your responses here or (and I hope this is alright with Noreen because this is the first I am asking) send your input to her to pass to me.
As you can see by the website, this takes place in November. I am fortunate enough that I will be brought to the conference by the Ohio State University because I am doing some work with them - a good thing given our travel freeze

What would you all think of calling ourselves the Washington State Teaching, Learning and Assessment Network?
Pros/cons?

What is the faculty role in today’s (and tomorrow’s) learning environments?
With that question in mind, take a look at the 5 ½ minute video, “Learn to Change; Change to Learn”, linked at the top of the ATL wiki homepage. (scroll up)
Please post your responses in this thread.
